The focus of my work to this point has remained relatively
consistent. For the last 10 years, my work has been rooted in
abstraction based upon the figure. As I approach each piece, I can
take a theme, idea, a piece of music, or a story and generate imagery
via oil or acrylic paint. This structure is not adhered to in every
situation, imagery could be a visual aesthetic and nothing more. In
the recent past, I've set perimeters, such as working on 30" x 24"
canvases in order to create a backdrop of control. By using the
principles of drawing and the continuing innovations in my own
painting techniques I will expand the scope of my work into new
directions. Not to be understated or lessened, I have been a
photographer for the last 7 years in a art gallery documenting 20th
century work from a gambit of different artists. This has had a
profound effect on my view on art, let alone how a person internalizes
visual material and then through processing it, a new image emerges
with a small stroke that is your own.
